ECO certification is an ecolabel given out by the Malta Tourism Authority to hotels on the islands of Malta. Approximately 15% of hotels on the Maltese Islands are ECO certified translating to almost 30% of hotel rooms.
To participate, hotels must comply with a number of criteria all aimed at improving their environmental performance and increasing environmental awareness amongst employees.
The following are the main areas covered by the criteria: environmental management, waste management, procurement, energy, water, air quality, noise, building and green areas, local culture, and information dissemination.

Conformity with ECO certification's standard is verified by an independent organization (third party) following Adi Associates are certified to ISO 14001 and have an internal Quality Management set-up. Staff have been trained in EMS (MSA BS 8555, ISO 14000, EMAS), EMAS verification, Internal Auditing, and provide support (as legal experts) to accreditation companies during ISO 14001 and EMAS audits of local companies.
